Jeep began modernizing its vehicle pool in 2021 with the Wrangler 4XE, the first plug-in hybrid vehicle launched by the manufacturer. This year, the automaker is expanding its PEHV offering with an updated version of one of its most iconic vehicles, the Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE.

A True Grand Cherokee
Seeing a classic like the Jeep Grand Cherokee labeled as a “plug-in” vehicle might make you worry that the model’s nearly 30 years of success is being misrepresented. Rest assured, there’s no need to worry; this electrified version of the fifth-generation Grand Cherokee holds all the traits of its predecessors, while adding a wide repertoire of practical modern features.
The vehicle is powered by a 17.3 kWh battery pack housed under the chassis that powers the two electric motors in the rear. They work in concert with a 2.0-liter turbocharged 4-cylinder engine to generate an impressive 375 horsepower and 470 lb-ft of torque, which is better than the 5.7L Hemi V8 (357 horsepower and 390 lb-ft of torque).
Of course, fuel economy is also on the agenda. The 2022 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE averages only 4.1L/100km and can travel up to 40km in 100% electric mode, allowing many drivers to complete their daily commute without using a single drop of gas!
And for weekend adventurers who want to make the most of their new Jeep’s capabilities, the Grand Cherokee 4XE promises an impressive range of more than 700 kilometers when combined with a full fuel tank and a full electric charge.

“The Jeep Grand Cherokee 4XE driver can tailor its hybrid powertrain to suit each trip, from daily commuting in pure-electric mode to extended highway road trips with no range anxiety, allowing owners to explore nature off-road in near silence. This is another important step toward achieving our global vision of Zero Emission Freedom. By 2025, we plan to offer a fully electric Jeep vehicle in every SUV segment.”

The different trims of the Grand Cherokee 4XE are equipped with an 8-speed automatic transmission and offer features that will appeal to lovers of luxury and new technologies. There are four of them:
